Electronic Safe Locks
Hello from Brad’s Safe and Lock.
Something to remember if you have an electronic safe lock. I went to a call recently where the safe would not open. It had an electronic key pad lock. Over the phone I asked if the batteries had been changed. The reply was “just replaced them with new batteries and the safe still won’t open”. I arrived and tested the key pad. It was an Amsec ESL10 XL safe lock on a TL30 large money safe. The key pad beeped when each key was depressed but still would not open. I pulled out 2 new 9volt batteries and put them in. I entered the code and the safe opened. The customer was shocked. They asked me why wouldn’t their batteries work. I inspected the batteries and noted the expiration date on them. They expire in 2011. Since it is 2010 already, the batteries have been sitting on the shelf for about 5 or 6 years before they were sold. The batteries I installed had an expiration date of 2016. Of course I had taken my lesson on this situation in the past. I informed the customer that when they buy new batteries to buy them from a store that sells batteries a lot and to check the expiration date. Look for batteries that expire 5 to 6 years from now. I relearned a lesson and passed it on to the customer. They were pleased that the safe did not have to be drilled open and repaired.
