Hello, from Brads Safe and Lock. We recently got a call from one of my good customers. An account I have been servicing for a couple of years. Their lateral file cabinet was locked. They have a key and it turns but none of the drawers would open. I moved the cabinet around and shook it rapidly. I then heard the rods fall into place and the cabinet opened. Now if I left the cabinet alone it would happen to them again. Lateral file drawer locks operate a lot differently then vertical file cabinets. It took me about a half hour to an hour to fine tune the catches on the side of each drawer and lubricate the turning rod along with the slide mechanism down the side of the lateral. When we were done the file cabinet opened everytime when the key was turned. Upon further conversation We found out the cabinet was moved from another room to its present location. Now we new what had happened and why. Good customer service locksmiths should address the problem at hand then fix the problem so it doesn’t continue. Although we can’t stop them from moving their file cabinets.
